The aim of G.A.I.A is to promote environmental awareness and understanding of one of the most amazing ideas of time, the Gaia hypothesis. On this site you will find links to some of the best sources of information about the environment.

We are always keen to hear of new sites, so if you have a site you would like to see included, please do contact us: webmaster@gaiaworld.org

We are also pleased to try and help with enquiries about environmental issues, so if you need advice or information, do get in touch. If you would like to support our aims, please follow the link for details of membership of G.A.I.A. Membership

What is the Gaia Hypothesis?

The Gaia Hypothesis is that our world can be viewed as a living organism on a massive scale, with some ability to regulate its own climate and environment. The rocks are Gaia’s body, the forests its lungs, and humanity its developing brain, sometimes its consciousness, sometimes its base, unaware ego.

The Gaia hypothesis was put forward by the visionary scientist James Lovelock. Its application, along with systems analysis, explains much about how our world works, and it offers one of the most amazing insights into what is really happening on planet Earth. It offers a useful tool for analysing what is happening in relation to climate change.

James Lovelock commented about the role of humanity: “As the transfer of power to our species proceeds, our responsibility for maintaining planetary homeostasis grows with it.

Free Letterbox Stickers

One little label can save a thousand trees.

New! Waterproof design now available!

In its first campaign, Eco is targeting the appalling waste of free newspapers. They come though our doors unrequested, and most simply get (at best) recycled unread, more likely thrown away, a criminal waste of energy and resources. We are offering free stickers reading "No free newspapers or junk mail please". Do order extra to deliver in your road or distribute to green friends, or your local environment group. Just send us your name and address and indicate the number of stickers you would like:  webmaster@ecozine.co.uk
